Dean MacKinnon's Winter 2017 Message

by Neil MacKinnon | Feb 24, 2017

Dean Neil Mackinnon

Greetings alumni and friends,

Welcome to the latest issue of Cincinnati Pharmacy, the electronic newsletter of the James L Winkle College of Pharmacy.

It has been a great start to 2017 for our college as our new auditorium and part of our new lobby opened in January. The remainder of the $34 million renovation to Kowalewski Hall is on schedule and will be completed in late summer. In the early fall, we will be inviting all alumni and friends of the college to return for an official opening ceremony for the renovated building. Demolition of Wherry Hall has commenced and, in its place, a new $98 million Health Sciences Building will be constructed.

One of the highlights of my position is interacting with our fantastic alumni, as so many of you continue to remain invested in the lives of our students and our college. This past fall we recognized three alumni, Myrella Roy, PharmD ('80), Eric Mueller, PharmD ('99) and David Jarnot, PharmD ('06), with distinguished alumni awards (read the entire article here). In April, college alumni Jerome Jackson ('85) and Ajaz Hussain, PhD ('86), will receive special university alumni awards. In our newly renovated building, just to the right from the main entrance a special display recognizing our distinguished alumni has been installed.

In addition, we are also proud of our alumni who are leaders in their field or area of practice and research. For example, Chad Worz, PharmD, ('96, '98), is president-elect of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), Ryan Marable, PharmD ('13), is Zone 3 director for the National Pharmacists Association (NAPhA) and Kelly Dobos ('12), has been elected vice-president elect of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC), and will serve as president of the society in 2019. These alumni and others are fulfilling our vision of developing pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists who will lead, care and transform, as articulated in our new strategic plan.

I hope you will enjoy reading our latest newsletter.  Go Bearcats!
