Greetings alumni and friends of the Winkle College of Pharmacy,
Welcome to the latest issue of Cincinnati Pharmacy, the electronic newsletter of the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy.
As we start the 2017-18 academic year and our new and returning students begin classes, it is a time of excitement. We have several reasons for this excitement.
One reason is the completion of the $34 million renovations to Kowalewski Hall. As I mentioned in the last issue of Cincinnati Pharmacy, we are nearing the completion of this three year project, with the opening celebration on September 14 at 3 p.m. I hope that you will be able to join us for this very special day. Please visit the following website for more details on this event which you won’t want to miss: http://pharmacy.uc.edu/news-events/completion
A second reason for this excitement is the White Coat Ceremony for the PharmD Class of 2021, which will be held on the evening of September 14. Thanks to your support, —every white coat was sponsored. That evening we will reveal the new white coats designed by students from the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning in the fashion design program. Yes, the coats are still white and may look similar from a distance but there are many small, thoughtful touches that have been incorporated into the new design.
Another reason for the excitement is that we are kicking off the new academic year not just with new students in Cincinnati, but with new students at two universities in China. Our college has partnered with Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) in Chongqing, China to launch a new joint MS program in cosmetic science and with Xiamen University (XU) in Xiamen, China to launch a new joint MS program in drug development. I will be traveling to China in September with three of our faculty to welcome the new students entering into these programs.
Finally, I would like to share with you that I’ve been reappointed to a second five-year term as dean. I’m humbled and grateful for this opportunity. Leanne, the girls and I love Cincinnati and I love the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. I look forward to seeing what the college can accomplish over the next five years as we lead, care and transform health care, pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical research.
