Yan Named Associate Dean of Research and Innovation at Pharmacy College
CINCINNATI—Bingfang Yan, PhD, has been named associate
dean of research and innovation at the University of Cincinnati
James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. In this newly created
position, Yan will direct the graduate program, provide leadership
on new initiatives, help to increase research productivity and
mentor junior faculty in their research.
He also holds the title of professor in the division of

rankings are strongly correlated to research funding. "We are
excited to have Dr. Yan on board at the college.”
Yan joins the Winkle College of Pharmacy from the University of
Rhode Island. His foundation is in veterinary medicine, but he has
advanced training in microbiology and immunology,
pharmacology/toxicology and tumor biology.
Yan’s laboratory, which has repeatedly been funded by the
NIH, was among the first to clone and characterize the gene
encoding the pregnane X receptor (PXR), and the gene encoding
differentiated embryo-chondrocyte-expresse gene 1 (DEC1).
PXR is a master regulator for drug-metabolizing enzymes and
transporters, whereas DEC1 is a circadian regulator with oncogenic

a standing member of NIH Study Section INMP.
