Focus On Faculty With Katie Johnson, PharmD
The James L. Winkle College of
Pharmacy welcomes University of Cincinnati two-time alumna Katie
Johnson, PharmD, to the pharmacy college faculty as an assistant
professor of pharmacy practice.
"My approach to teaching
focuses on explaining the ‘why, a style I learned the
importance of from my
preceptors,” at Winkle College, says Johnson.
Johnson says she first became
interested in pharmacy when her uncle encouraged her to take a
summer job after high school as a pharmacy technician at a Kroger
pharmacy. This experience, she says, led her to pursue a career as
a pharmacist to help people live healthier lives.
Johnson attended the University
of Cincinnati (UC) for pre-pharmacy coursework and graduated from
the College of Pharmacy in 2015 with a doctor of pharmacy
After graduation, she completed
a community pharmacy residency partnered between UC and Kroger and
a two-year corporate pharmacy fellowship with Kroger focused on
corporate management and administration and clinical program
"As part of my fellowship, I
pursued and received my master’s in pharmacy leadership
(18') to further develop my leadership skills to work to
advance the profession of pharmacy.”
Starting with the 2018 fall
semester Johnson will teach Pharmacy Practice, Therapeutics,
Introduction to the Health Care System and in the skills
During her academic pursuits,
Johnson was also a member of the UC Women’s soccer team.
Today, when Johnson is not working she still enjoys playing soccer;
and sand volleyball, hiking and backpacking, spending time with
friends and family, and traveling to explore new cities.
