Focus On Faculty With Katie Johnson, PharmD

Focus On Faculty With Katie Johnson, PharmD

Published:

The James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy welcomes University of Cincinnati two-time alumna Katie Johnson, PharmD, to the pharmacy college faculty as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice.

"My approach to teaching focuses on explaining the ‘why, a style I learned the importance of from my   former preceptors,” at Winkle College, says Johnson.

Johnson says she first became interested in pharmacy when her uncle encouraged her to take a summer job after high school as a pharmacy technician at a Kroger pharmacy. This experience, she says, led her to pursue a career as a pharmacist to help people live healthier lives.

Johnson attended the University of Cincinnati (UC) for pre-pharmacy coursework and graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 2015 with a doctor of pharmacy degree.

After graduation, she completed a community pharmacy residency partnered between UC and Kroger and a two-year corporate pharmacy fellowship with Kroger focused on corporate management and administration and clinical program development.

"As part of my fellowship, I pursued and received my master’s in pharmacy leadership (18') to further develop my leadership skills to work to advance the profession of pharmacy.”

Starting with the 2018 fall semester Johnson will teach Pharmacy Practice, Therapeutics, Introduction to the Health Care System  and in the skills lab.

During her academic pursuits, Johnson was also a member of the UC Women’s soccer team. Today, when Johnson is not working she still enjoys playing soccer; and sand volleyball, hiking and backpacking, spending time with friends and family, and traveling to explore new cities.
