Exciting New Scholarships/Fellowships Available for Promoting Excellence in MS/PhD Research Program

Forbriger Doctoral Fellowship

 

Endowed by A. William Forbriger, the goal of this fellowship is to encourage a student with Chemical Engineering background, preferably a graduate of the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science, to pursue doctoral research in pharmaceutical sciences with emphasis in cosmetic or skin sciences.  Based on the criteria set by the donor, following are the priority areas for the award consideration.

1.  A full-time Ph.D. student in the College of Pharmacy pursuing research in cosmetic/skin sciences who has a degree in Chemical Engineering from UC College of Engineering.

2. A full-time Ph.D. student in the College of Pharmacy pursuing research in cosmetic/skin sciences

Current Students with preference for those who have completed the doctoral candidacy requirements and meet the indicated goals of the fellowship.

Ritschel Doctoral Fellowship

 

Endowed by Professor Wolfgang Ritschel, who made seminal contributions in the field of pharmacokinetics, the scholarship recognizes and financially support graduate students pursuing doctoral studies in the field of pharmacokinetics, biopharmaceutics and related fields.   Based on the criteria set by the donor, following are the priority areas for the award consideration.

1. A full-time Ph.D. student working on a research project with a scientific approach and emphasis on clinical pharmacokinetics using human subjects.

2. A full-time Ph.D. student in the College of Pharmacy who is working on pharmacokinetics in intact animals, isolated organs, cell cultures and modeling.

3.   A full-time Ph.D. student in the College of Pharmacy   who is working on other projects that involve drug delivery, biopharmaceutics or other related areas.

Current Students with preference for those who have completed the doctoral candidacy requirements and meet the indicated goals of the fellowship.

Rieveschl/Parke-Davis Doctoral Fellowships

 

The Rieveschl/Parke-Davis Funds were endowed with the purpose of enhancing doctoral research and training at the College of Pharmacy.   The Graduate Program Committee is offering three fellowships to reward scholarly activity of students who have successfully achieved doctoral candidacy so that they focus primarily on research and complete doctoral education on a timely basis.

Current Students pursuing doctoral research are eligible to apply.  Preference will be given to those individuals  who have completed the doctoral candidacy requirements

Rieveschl/Parke-Davis Meritorious Manuscript Award

 

Award Criteria

  • Applicant must have published at least one first author research or scientific manuscript in peer-reviewed professional journal.
  • Paper should be published in the recent past academic year.
  • Journal impact factor is the key factor for ranking priority.
  • Candidate should provide a list of all publications during that academic year.
  •  Both quality and quantity will be assessed in evaluating their scholarly excellence

One candidate will be selected from each of the three graduate tracks: Health Outcomes, Biopharmaceutics/Biomembrane, and Experimental Therapeutics.

Important Points to Note:

  • Each doctoral scholarship will includes funding of $ 13,000/year (half RA) awarded for two years.   In addition, the Forbriger and Ritschel Fellowships will include an annual award of $ 3,000 for the doctoral student to attend specialized workshop/training boot camp in their respective disciplines.    
  • To ensure the merit-basis of the scholarships, extensive efforts will be made to recruit applicants, and the number of awards given in each category will typically be lower than the total number of candidates
  • The evaluation criteria will include the candidate’s research background (to match the donor/sponsor requirements), candidate’s publication/presentation record, overall progress towards graduation and contributions to College of Pharmacy.   An award cycle may be skipped for any scholarship if a competitive pool of proposals is lacking.
